Granada, Spain

I went to Granada Spain the weekend of November 14th-17th 2019. I arrived to Granada Thursday night late at night. I enjoyed my time at the airport waiting to leave. I had a pleasant surprise, and met a girl standing in line to get on the airplane who goes to international church of Barcelona and knows the same girls I met there. We had a wonderful conversation. I arrived to Granada and I stayed up really late because I was trying to watch my niece play state volleyball online but then I found out that I had to pay to watch it. That was a bummer and I couldn’t watch her play.

Friday I slept in and took my time getting ready before I head to the school to meet my friend Elliot who went to Colorado Christian University with me. I watched him play guitar and talk to the students in Spanish. It was so sweet to be able to watch him play. We had a wonderful day full of great, deep, conversations about real struggles and pointing each other to keep seeking Jesus’s face no matter what. He showed me around Granada and walked in the Alhambra area. It was very beautiful!

The Alhambra became the royal residence and court of Granada in the mid-13th century after the establishment of the Nasrid Kingdom and the construction of the first palace by the founding king Mohammed ibn Yusuf Ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar.

Granada has a history that ties them to Morocco and there’s many Muslim people living there. Ibn al-ahmar lead the longest reigning of Muslim dynasty around 1228.
The Alhambra became a Christian court in 1492 when the Catholic Monarchs conquered Granada.

Friday night I relaxed and read my book Kisses from Katie and then I met a girl from New Zealand. We ended up talking for a couple hours. It was so great to get to know her.

Saturday was such a great day! Elliot and I met up for breakfast and then we went on a hike up around Alhambra to look over this beautiful city. It was very beautiful! We had more wonderful, deep conversations about God. We both agreed that God sent me there during an important time to encourage and guide him with his next step that God wanted him to do. It was great to have a piece from home for a weekend. It was a gift that I was able to catch up with a friend from CCU that I haven’t seen for a couple years.

Later in the afternoon, after Elliot and I had to say our goodbyes, I met up with the Becky Middleton from New Zealand. We met at St. Nicolas mirador to overlook the city. It had a beautiful view.

Next to the viewpoint is the Church of San Nicolás of 1525 in the Mudejar and Gothic style, built on a mosque like many churches in Granada.

Then we went to have some drinks and ate dinner together. I enjoyed getting to know Becky Middletons heart and her journey traveling.

Then I went to go see flamenco dancing in Sacramento part of the city in Granada. The music was very calm and so good! Flamenco dancing is beautiful and enjoyable to watch.

Then I got back to my hostel and I ended up going to the common area to meet more people that were traveling around Europe too. I enjoyed listening to their stories and the adventures they have had in Granada.

These were a couple people I met at the hostel that was traveling around. The guy on the right was from Croatia.

Overall, Granada Spain was so beautiful! I honestly wish I could have stayed longer. It was such a blessing and a gift from the Lord that I was able to see Elliot from CCU. I would definitely would like to come back to Granada.
