I taught 1st grade some English words with pictures and then had them draw a picture with a couple words they picked. Students are drawing a picture to the English word. Dolos my supervisor and the music teacher playing the piano together. 2nd grade art project with different liquids and color dye. Science Class with the 4th gradersI taught this lesson by myself without a translator. It was challenging and there was chaos but we figured it out. We were measuring and comparing how much sugar is in each item. Helping a student with scienceArt project- They had to draw something with out their eyes open. I thought of the idea to have 2nd grade to make colorful coffee filters by using color dye and water. They let them dry and then hang them up on black paper. Second grade really enjoyed this activity. Danny was putting color on his filters. The colorful filters! The 2nd time I taught a lesson with out a translator, I was more prepared. It was less a disaster because of the language barrier. I had the students teach me some Spanish words while I taught them these words in English. I had the students point and match the object to the English word. We were teaching on density with liquids. We taught on sight and the importance of being able to see. Blind people can read by using Braille. We had them make their name in Braille by using Play- Doe. I had the privilege of helping Jannat most of the time with putting her name together in Braille alphabet by using play do. We created a sweet bond during that time. Taught first grade about the thanksgiving holiday that the United States celebrates. This is sweet Noor in first grade. Everyone else in the group wanted to read a book but she wanted to stay and practice writing English words with me. Noor and I created a sweet bond. She was a sweetheart. This is Zara from Second grade. She loves to give hugs and hold hands. She struggles in school. Even though there was an language barrier, we still had a sweet bond. Danny and I bonded over building a structure with blocks and marvels. He is one of special needs students. He knows very little English. He told me “look in Catalon” and he kept asking me “como se dice angles” and pointing at things. I taught him English words. I asked him “como se dice Español” pointing at things to learn what the objects were called. I enjoyed getting to know Danny even though it is difficult at times. Dolos taught a art project to third grade by having the students make different textures with floor tiles. Third grade making different floor tiles. Taught color personalities to the sixth grade class. They took a survey and then we talked about them. I translated the survey into Spanish and Elena helped me translate when the students didn’t understand. Most of the students enjoyed learning about themselves. Most of them haven’t thought about how they feel and react to certain things. This activity started the seed to start thinking about that they value.
